A mother's honesty
Let me do some scene setting.
I don't visit my mother very often. Depending on where I am, we're either in the same country 2 hours apart by car, or spanning Europe 1,600 miles apart (involving a plane and car journeys). We've been in the same country most of this year and I have seen more of her. Especially when she moved house in March -- a big task, mentally, for a 80 year old lady.
This morning I sent her a WhatsApp:
Hi, what are you doing today? I was thinking of driving up to see you and we could go for some lunch.
Response:
I will call you in 15 minutes, I am out at the shops
Shortly thereafter, a video call from mother. Her conversation went like this:
Well, that would be lovely.... but.... well... it's the semi-final of the tennis [Wimbledon].... you know I love the tennis? So maybe you could come another day...... I'd love to see you, but perhaps on a day when I am bored.
There's not much comeback to her honesty.
Me:
No problem. We can catch up some other time.
Dumped, by my own mother.🤣🤣
