International Roaming
FiftyIn50Do you consider yourself to be an international person?
I would say yes -- I have a home in Scotland and one in Spain, and I try to split my time between both.
I was born in Scotland, but have had a dream for a long time to live abroad. Luckily my partner shared that dream. After many years working hard we achieved our goal a few years ago.
I was very clear that our Spanish home should be in a more traditional Spanish village. Not a tourist destination. These have their place, but I want to experience the real Spain. The language, the people, the food, the culture.
Our home is a traditional Spanish home in a small inland village. The population is probably around 200 people. Our house is typical of its age – built of sticks and stones. Haha. It seems like that, but the walls utilise the side of a hill, and the ceilings have massive logs (which support our top two floors). There's rustic plaster on the walls and ceilings.
We love it. We totally integrate into the community. Only about 10 people are native English speakers, so learning Spanish is vital and fun. The locals are great – they love to try their English phrases and we our Spanish.
