Linux, can you hear me? 🎤
For years I've dabbled with Linux... Like 10+ years. I love the idea of it, and the speed, but I always found little issues that annoyed me, so I'd revert to Windows.
In the olden days I struggled with video drivers and screen resolution, but the Linux boffins eventually fixed that. Then there was a lack of comparable Windows like software. Again, mostly solved, and many of the mainstream software houses provide native Linux apps, or are browser based. Software installation is also much easier these days.
Now that I work for myself I can choose to be in Linux 99% of the time. Very occasionally I need to jump back into Windows for a short time.
I still have one issue that causes me grief in Linux..... Audio.
Linux seems determined to forget my headset connection. I can spend a few hours a day in video calls. Jumping between Zoom and Teams. Typically I do a quick audio test before a call, just to ensure I'm ready. I really shouldn't need to. Half of those tests result in it having forgotten my microphone setting, or just not working even although it tells me it's connected. I need to disconnect and reconnect (power off and on) the headset.
I've tried various corded and cordless heatsets, and several Linux flavours. Always the same.
I stick with it, but it shouldn't be so awkward. Life is complicated enough. 🤣
